CURRENT NEEDS:

Hebron Children's Home currently has 340 children, including around 100 tsunami displaced children - all cared for by just 14 staff, many of whom are volunteers. The facilities were designed for about 70 children, so there are many urgent needs right now:

ONGOING NEEDS:

Help for ongoing monthly running costs: Any regular monthly donation is very much appreciated. It costs only $20 per child per month for education, clothing and food.

Employ a qualified English teacher so that our children can learn enough English to read what they see on the computers. We are looking for a volunteer to fill this position, but given just $100 per month, we could employ a fully qualified local teacher.

Tuition: Some of our graduates are currently having tuition in a vocational skill. For example, we have three girls who have completed grade 10 and are now studying embroidery with a private tutor. The cost of tuition is $30 per month per child. We have many other graduates who have left the orphanage to work on paddy fields that we could bring back to the orphanage and have taught a vocation or trade. Given the funds, we could take in several dozen graduates and give them a chance at a real job that pays a reasonable wage.

ONCE-OFF NEEDS:

Educational supplies, such as black (or white) boards, markers, pens, paper pads. The school runs with essentially no budget to buy such items. Any small donation of $20 or more can purchase such supplies.

A computer printer, either color or black and white. Cost with a supply of ink cartridges is about $200.

Sewing machines: We are looking for a source of reconditioned reliable sewing machines to give graduates when they leave the orphanage. This will guarantee them employment and a future. A reconditioned sewing machine only costs around $100, but transportation into India can be a challenge - A sewing machine has to be taken in as personal luggage; otherwise, it will probably be damaged or stolen..
